Religious Education

Christian Formation:

At St. Joseph Catholic Church & School, we are Building Faith & Knowledge for Life!  Our mission to share the message and love of Jesus Christ with the world must begin with forming ourselves in the image of Christ.

The Department of Christian Formation is committed to educating the people of God from the womb to the tomb.

If you are interested in learning more about our programs, please contact Brother Henry in the parish office.

Sunday Morning Religious Education

Religious Education classes for five year old kindergarten through fifth grade meet from 9:40 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. each Sunday according to the schedule recorded on the Parish Master Calendar.  During the next few years, we will be expanding the Sunday Morning program to include sixth, seventh, and eight grades.

The staff and volunteers of St. Joseph Catholic Church & School are looking forward to helping parents bring their child to a deeper faith in Jesus Christ through an understanding of His Church. It is our hope that parent will take this responsibility seriously.

One of the most important ways you as parents and guardians can share the faith with your child is by partaking of the sacraments and praying together as a family.  Children learn through imitation; please set a good example.

May God bless us as we strive to be men, women, and children after God’s own heart.

Vactation Bible School

In the summer of 2009, the youth of St. Joseph Catholic Church & School traveled to the Bayou and visited Crocodile Dock, Where Fearless Kids Shine God’s Light!  In the summer of 2010, we hit the High Seas, Exploring the Mighty Love of God.  In the summer of 2011, we sojourned the jungles to discover how God is Wild About Us.

Without a strong team of volunteers, Vacation Bible School would not have been nor will continue to be able to take place.  We need group leaders, station leaders, decorators, and much, much more.  Please consider donating your time and talent to make this an exciting week for our kids next year.  If you would like to volunteer please contact Brother Henry in the parish office brhenry@sjccs.net or (864) 225-5341x101

Youth Ministry

CY4C - Catholic Youth For Christ

Our New Combined Youth Ministry of Anderson where youth from both St. Joseph & St. Mary of the Angels meet and hang with their peers, while living their Catholic Faith.  Though a renewed emphasis on prayer and service  mixed with good times that roll, our goal is to take on being Catholic and Young in the 21st Century.  That's what's up!

Adult Religious Education

Sunday Morning Adult Catechesis (SMAC) takes place in Fr. Friend Hall from 9:40 – 10:50 coinciding with the Pre-K through 5th grade Religious Education schedule which can be found in the Parish Master Calendar.

Grab a cup of Dave's fresh brewed coffee and take part in the lectures and discussions presented by St. Joseph’s department of Christian Formation. All participants are invited to contribute to a potluck breakfast and take advantage of this delightful opportunity for fellowship between the Masses.

About past series:  Dexter Brown and Michael Stein have hosted “Apologetics for Beginners” providing sound defenses of the Catholic faith on weighty topics like transubstantiation and apostolic succession and “The Shadow Church:  Exposing lies and falsehoods in modern Catholic thought.”  Michael Kirk’s series “A Walk through the Bible” gave participants a humorous and insightful look into the book of Genesis, and Father Hayden shared his insight on Grace and the Sacraments and how to live the Christian life.

Shana Upham, the Director of Christian Formation, is on the lookout for new topics and new presenters.  If you have a great idea and want to try your hand at SMAC, please contact the parish office.
